In a world that is experiencing a change in environment, things have been becoming more and more difficult for humans to survive. In recent years, scientists have been warning about the degradation of forests all over the world. All these warnings and consequences seem to be falling on deaf ears and people don’t seem to care as trees are their cause of life. The question is: can we save our forests? If we want our forests back, we need to make conscious changes in their habits and lifestyle. Making changes on personal level may not be possible as it will require solidarity from all countries as well as time that will likely exceed our lifespan but there are ways of changing the way things happen at large scale with great effort. In order to start with the preservation of forests, we need to know why they are in danger in the first place. There is a misconception that it is authorities and governments’ duty to protect forests from the threats that they face. In reality, it is public who knows best about their behavior and efforts contain local awareness about the problems faced by their forest ownership. Public participation has always been an integral part of protecting our environment against numerous hazards that may cause serious damage to life on earth. One example of this is through planting trees. Planting trees can be done by merely everybody either alone, in small groups or even large groups like community programs. This method of planting trees will not only make change but it will also be a fun activity. As people start to recognize the importance of trees they will be more likely to participate in planting trees. A study conducted on Great Britain found that approximately 14 million outdoor plants were planted due to awareness awareness created by community events activities. This is a great way of involving the public into forest preservation activities as it is beneficial for both the society and the environment. Programs like this are not new but they are often forgotten about. Public participation has always been crucial in protecting our forests from being destroyed. A simple example would be the Forest Stewardship Council which was jointly launched by forestry professionals, forest industries, NGOs and conservation organizations in 1991. The objective of this committee is to provide a clear and credible certification scheme for sustainable logging to enhance long term forest management and to promote the sustainable utilization and management of forest resources. This committee also facilitates discussions and exchanges between companies, governments and NGOs for the harmonious maintenance of forests. The Forest Stewardship Council is a great way of involving the public into forest preservation activities as it is beneficial for both the society and the environment. In many countries it has been seen that citizens are not very concerned about their forest life because they depend on them. At times, they may even feel frustrated about trees because they believe it will take a long time for them to grow back. This is because most people believe that trees grow very slowly. When they ask others about the time it will take for a tree to grow back, they often get negative responses. However, this is not true as trees can re-grow quickly. Many forests and forests around the world have been restored due to their quick growth rate and many people do not realize this fact. Research shows that tree plantations can grow up to twice as fast as natural forests. This means that we can save our forests and we can restore them within a short period of time. cfa1e77820
